I am the mom who did not get the magic cure for autism. I spent most of my time searching for relevant and age-appropriate resources to teach my daughter life skills after she was diagnosed with autism in 1999. I was fortunate to receive guidance from exceptional Special Education Teachers, ABA Therapists, Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Tutors, and Occupational Therapists to create the materials she needed.

    When my daughter stopped staring into space and started asking questions, I knew I had found a way to communicate with her. That was a fantastic accomplishment.  I spent the next month asking my friends and family to teach me how to do a backflip. I am so grateful that they did not because I am incredibly uncoordinated, and I don’t want to miss a moment of this spectacular journey.  Age-appropriate graphics and topics that were relevant to her was the solution that grabbed her attention.

    As my daughter transitioned to adulthood, I wondered if I would have the courage and strength for the next step in this journey. Then I realized that I didn’t have a choice in the matter. She is an adult. After eating a mountain of salted caramel ice cream topped with chocolate sprinkles and binge-watching a shameful amount of Netflix, I pulled myself together, came up with a plan, and here we are.

    Two decades later, I am still creating functional life skills resources to empower my daughter and others on the autism spectrum to realize their potential as they transition into adulthood. This site is ‘For and About Us’, the extraordinary professionals and remarkable families who did not receive the magic cure for autism.
